An exploration into the Flemish still life Whetton has created photographs that surprise and please the onlooker pulling them back into a time where luscious extravagances were painted in service to great wealth and desire. Based on original paintings from the seventeenth century the artist wishes to present the still life as a valid form of expression in contemporary culture. She explores the complexities of composition, light and atmosphere that was used in the gripping realism of the Flemish painters and pays homage to their mastery.
